Art meets science when you make your own paper microscope and see your world magnified at 140 times from how you see it with your eyes alone!
Join us for this exciting adventure making and exploring your world with your own Foldscope! A Foldscope is a paper microscope that you can assemble yourself.
In this 2.5-hour hands-on experience, trained Foldscope volunteers will help you make your own microscope, and then it’s time to explore! See your world in a whole new way – literally! All needed materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their favorite art supplies or a journal to document their adventures as well as any samples they would like to examine. Possible samples include leaves, hair, a pond water sample (in a sealed container) - let your imagination go wild! Bring your mobile phone and learn how to take pictures using the Foldscope phone coupler. All participants get to keep their Foldscope and phone coupler.
Through a partnership between the Kansas Science Festival and the Manhattan Public Library, sponsored by a generous donation from the Histochemical Society, we are pleased to present this series of Foldscope Teen Workshops as part of the 2022 KS Science Fest! There will be an opportunity to explore use of Foldscope with families on the afternoon of Apr. 30th at the KS Science Festival to be held in downtown Manhattan, KS 1-5 pm April 30th.
