Wouldn't it be wonderful, if each of your students had a simple tool to look at the world in a new way?  A Foldscope is a paper microscope that you can assemble yourself. It magnifies up to 140x! Learn how to make them and use them in your classroom. View premade glass slides, homemade slides, and even fluids. Inspire your students to interpret the microscopic world that surrounds them and explore its hidden beauty. Foldscopes can integrate with phones and iPads for picture taking. They are a wonderful low-cost way for students to look at the detail of the world around them. There are a diversity of curriculum applications in the science and art classrooms and beyond.

Through a partnership between the Kansas Science Festival and the Manhattan Public Library, sponsored by a generous donation from the Histochemical Society, we are pleased to present 2 free Foldscope Instruments Training Sessions. Register to attend from 10:00-2:00 or 4:30-8:30. Register by April 6 if you plan to attend virtually via Zoom so that your materials can be sent out to you. Registration for both workshops closes on April 11. Dinner will be provided during the training session. Please add any dietary needs in the registration "special notes" portion.

This will be the first of many Foldscope activities in the region. The presenters encourage all participants to volunteer to help out with Foldscope events during the Kansas Science Festival Apr. 20-30th. There will be an opportunity to explore use of Foldscope with families on the afternoon of Apr. 30th and multiple teen workshops. Help is also needed to fold additional scopes for the Apr. 30th event. Details will be discussed at the training workshop. If you are a K-State student, you will be contacted ahead of time to determine which volunteer activity you will participate in.
