Program Description
Event Details
Join us on October 13th at 6:30pm for a science talk on “The Accelerating Expanding Universe: Dark Matter, Dark Energy, and Einstein's Cosmological Constant” with K-State professor of physics, Bharat Ratra. Members of the community are invited to attend this free program, co-sponsored by K-State Department of Physics, KS Science Fest, and the Manhattan Public Library.
Ratra will describe what is persuading cosmologists (as yet undetected) that dark energy and dark matter are the main pieces of the universe’s energy budget and how these observations have led to the developing quantitative “standard” model of cosmology. In this non-technical talk, he will also discuss the basic physics, and the history of ideas, on which this model is based.
